I Quit Facebook

I have several reasons which have been getting stronger over the last several weeks. I quit for some of the same reasons before, but decided to come back after a short while. This time, however, I have a few more reasons, and they’re becoming more important reasons. Anyway, I’m not going to go into details for any of the reasons. What I will say, however, is that I didn’t quit for just one single reason, or because of any single person or group of people. The sum of all my reasons far outweighs the pros of keeping it.

The technical way I quit is that I changed my password first of all. You may ask how that would help anything if I’m the one that changed it? I opened a text editor and ran my fingers across the keyboard in random sequence. The letters and numbers that came out had no meaning to me. I copied that from the text editor to my password prompt and saved the new password. I then closed the text editor without saving the file. I couldn’t remember it now to save my life.

For photos, I’m going to see how Flickr does for me, and I’m going to try out Google’s Picasa also. If I have something I want to post about, I’ll put it here on my blog. Feel free to keep up with me here, and I’ll do my best to post more regularly.

Facebook is handy for a lot of things, but it isn’t worth it to me.

Baffled

It baffles me how some people in a professional environment refuse to communicate in a professional manner. Rather than type out a proper sentence, they’ll use abbreviations suitable for text messages on a phone, such as ‘pls’ for please, or ‘ur’ for your.

Professional Courtesy

Why do people find it so impossible to extend the professional courtesy and spell my name right? What’s worse is it’s usually right there in an email and they can see it right in front of their face!

The site will be going down for a little while tonight (4/12/08) for some maintenance and patch updates. Total downtime should be less than an hour.

Power Outage

The power was out this morning, so it was a nice little challenge trying to get ready for work in the dark. The site was down for a couple hours, but all is well now.

Sped Up Site

Some of you may have noticed that the site hasn’t been quite as fast as it should be. I found an option in my web server configuration file that allows browsers to request data faster, and for the web server to get data to you faster.

Back to the Grind

The weekend is over, time to get back at it. Maybe it will dry up enough to finish getting the garden ready. I’ll be working on cutting up some firewood for next Winter too.
