A lot of preachers I’ve heard will always try to come up with a catchy title for a message around New Year’s Day. To ‘Toe the Line‘ can mean a few different things, but one thing they all seem to have in common is that there is a strong presence of discipline involved.
Some of you, my loyal readers, will disagree with most of what I say here, so this is your fair warning.
Barack Hussein Obama is the worst thing that could happen to this country. He will take away freedoms, and he is immoral in his fundamental beliefs. I could go on, but I don’t want to make this post about politics. My point is that this country has elected a leader who will do as much as possible to destroy our Godly heritage.
It’s been tried before, and will likely be tried again (and probably succeed). For example, bills have been previously introduced in the U.S. Congress that would classify preaching from the Bible that sodomy is wrong and wicked as a hate crime, punishable by jail/prison time. None have passed yet, but I won’t be surprised to see it within the next year with a Democrat led Congress.
So, my question is, who will stand up for what the believe in the face of government opposition? Peter and the apostles told their government that they ought to obey God rather than men. They were beaten for their stand for Truth. Will we change our minds? Or will we ‘Toe the Line’ and stand, unmoveable, when the liberals begin forcing ‘acceptance’ and ‘tolerance’ on us? (Funny how they preach tolerance, but won’t tolerate a Christian stand.)
I’m usually not one to make a New Year’s resolution and really stick with it. I did okay this year – I attempted to keep things organized. I did well for a little while, but things easily get piled up when you don’t have a lot of storage space.
This year, I’m making one that millions of people make. I need to lose weight. I saw a YouTube video that a guy put together (I won’t post the video here because the guy is shirtless throughout the entire thing, and it is rather disgusting, especially at first) by taking a picture of himself every day over the course of a couple of months. This was to document his progress as he lost weight. He also committed to posting daily blog entries to hold himself accountable to his goal.
I’m not going to do the photo thing, because I’d really rather not post shirtless photos of myself out on the Internet for all to see. But I do want to blog daily about my progress (or lack thereof).
My plan? I’m not holding myself to a whole lot, but it will definitely be a start. I want to walk every morning, maybe working myself up to a jog. On my road, it is a mile to get to the highway, so I’ll have a good 2 mile walk if I go that far. There is also a steep hill on the road that I would have to walk – that will help for sure. My other thing is to start eating a little more healthy. Maybe I need to learn to like a salad?
After long preparation and a lot of hard work by everyone involved, we had a great Christmas program/play at church last night. We had a good crowd with several visitors – I hope that it will be something they’ll remember and that God can work in their hearts through what was done.
I was getting pretty nervous leading up to the whole thing. I did have a part, but I was more nervous for everyone else than I was for myself. Everybody did an awesome job, though, and I was glad to be a part of it at all.
I don’t have any pictures myself (I was too busy doing curtains and running from one side of the building to the other), but I do know some were taken. If I’m able to get my hands on some, I’ll post them here. My parents also had our camcorder, so when I’m able to get the video off it I’ll try to post some clips here.
Becky and I were given gifts by the church as a whole and by a few individuals. For that we are truly grateful and humbled. We have worked hard on the program, but we’ve totally enjoyed it. We thank God for the opportunity and ability to be able to have done something like this. During all of it, getting anything was truly the last thing on our minds. I don’t know how better to express our gratitude and thankfulness for the thoughtfulness and caring we’ve been shown. That the program and all that it included was a success is all that we had been praying and hoping for. We just hope that even though the program is over, it will continue to bless and/or help those who witnessed it.
Supposedly, throwing a shoe at someone is one of the worst insults an Iraqi can give to anyone. But you have to admit that this looks pretty funny. I was surprised to see that Bush was able to move as fast as he did. Not to mention how slow the Secret Service guys appeared to be.
Bush totally shrugged off the incident and painted the shoe thrower as someone who craves attention, and mildly rebuked the reporter at the press conference for giving him that attention.
My favorite Braves pitcher ever has announced his retirement after 355 wins in 23 seasons. Greg Maddux is a no-brainer for the baseball hall of fame with all that he has accomplished.
I always enjoyed watching him pitch in a Braves uniform because I knew he wasn’t out there trying to overpower the batters – he was trying to (and succeeding) outsmart them. Don’t get me wrong, I like watching pitchers that can throw in the triple digits. It’s fun to watch batters try to catch up to it. But it’s fun to watch batters being made to look stupid by someone who throws a 90 MPH fastball.
After he left the Braves, I didn’t keep up with him all that much. I think he was with the Dodgers for a year before I realized he’d left the Cubs. But any time I happened across a game where he was pitching, I sat down and watched it.
Baseball will miss Maddux, and I’m sure he’ll miss it as well. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him in some sort of coaching or manager role for a team somewhere down the road.
It’s been nearly two weeks since I’ve blogged about anything. After thinking about it for nearly two weeks, I’m still not sure if it’s because I’ve been lazy, or if it’s because I haven’t had anything to write about. Honestly it’s probably a little of both.
Christmas is coming up really soon, so Becky and I (mostly Becky) have been doing as much Christmas shopping as we can. I’ve noticed that as I get older, Christmas gets here faster and faster. When I was a kid, it took forever to get here! Becky and I are also heading up the Christmas play at church this year, so that has been an added, but welcome challenge as well. We’ve really enjoyed working with the youth and hope to be able to do more with them in the future.
I guess all of the Christmas preparations are what has been keeping us busy, but we’re also having to take care of all of the normal day-to-day stuff at the same time. Last year I think I let all of that turn me into sort of a Scrooge – just ask Becky..she’ll be honest with you. I’m determined not to let that happen this year though. I’m trying to stay full of Christmas cheer. See?!
Something else that’s cool is that this entire post has been written on my iPhone. This is the best gadget I’ve ever owned, and probably the most useful as well.
